Shopping in New York City
It’s no secret that New York City is considered one of the best places for shopping with its cosmopolitan style and culture, not to mention it is one of the fashion capitals of the world. New York has an extreme variety of brands including high end luxury designers and fashion houses such as Tiffany, Chanel and Louis Vuitton, but also international high street brands such as Topshop, Zara and H&M. Manhattan is most definitely the centre of it all where all the big names and department stores can be found.
As well as being an impressive shopping paradise New York also has a unique entertainment scene and world class restaurants. The best way to end a hard day’s shopping.
Manhattan has a wide selection of department stores to choose from and each one has something special for everyone. The major department stores are Barneys (660 Madison Avenue), Bloomingdales (59th Street & Lexington Avenue), Macy’s (151 West 34th Street) and Saks Fifth Avenue (611 Fifth Avenue) just to name a few. You will also find flagship stores of luxury brands such as Christian Louboutin, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent and other American and international designers and high street brands like, Calvin Klein, French Connection, Topshop and American Apparel.
If you have exhausted Manhattans big brands or are just looking for something alternative, Chelsea and Greenwich Village are definitely worth a look in. Shops and boutiques in Chelsea much reflect the surrounding area and population; the stores much represent a more high street, bohemian style which is more affordable than the luxury brands and stores. Greenwich Village or “the village” has lots of great independent shops and one of a kind pieces. The atmosphere in Greenwich Village is also calmer than the busy streets of Manhattan.
